Objective: To equip students with cutting edge skills in financial analysis and equity research that will enhance their competitiveness and seed the next generation of investment professional. This educational challenge will build relevant, world wide fundamental investment knowledge to educate, train and develop the next generation of financial analysts. Concept: The program will create quality independent equity research reports for Florida based publicly traded companies that are underserved or not on the radar of Wall Street analysts.
Investment Thesis: The investment thesis will be centered around the deep value approach to investing. Thus, the student will learn the basics of fundamental analysis, valuation models and their application to equity investing.
Structure: The core of the program is designed around relevant portions of the candidate body of knowledge from the CFA® program ( www.cfainstitute.org). Participant’s can feel comfortable knowing that the practical hands-on training they will receive is what existing investment professionals view as relevant and current in the marketplace.

Program Overview
Step 1: Application and selection process
Step 2: Investment training trogram based on the CFA® candidate curriculum
Step 3: Student is assigned a firm in a specific industry to analyze
Step 4: Draft equity research report is produced and presented
Step 5: Research is approved by the investment committee and published
Financial Analysis Training Program
The student will go through an intensive financial analysis training program modeled from the CFA curriculum. The topics will include: the Analysis of Balance Sheets & Income Statements, Cash Flow Analysis, Forecasting and Regression analysis, Financial Modeling basics, Valuation Techniques (discounted cash flow and multiples), Data Structure and Research Design, the deep value investment thesis, how to read 10Ks, 10Qs and Proxy Filings.
Requirements
I. The Basic Requirements
- The student must have a 3.3 GPA or higher in their major
- The student must be an accounting, finance or business major
- At the undergraduate level, students must be at the beginning of their second year
- Graduate students must be in their first semester of the MBA or masters program
- Required Prerequisite Courses:
- Undergraduate Students should have taken the majority of the following courses: Accounting I & II, Corporate Finance, Money and Banking, Economics ( macro/micro), Advanced Finance.
- Graduate Students: Should have had at least 2 of the business courses listed above if their undergraduate degree is not in business.
II. Written Essay: Three essay questions must be answered and submitted with your application.
III. The interview: Interviews of selected candidates will be conducted by the investment committee. Please note that ONLY those applications selected will be contacted for an interview. |
